Around the World in 12 Dishes: French Omelette & Banana Milkshake

I am very happy to continue introducing to  you this wonderful project – Around the World in 12 Dishes : season 2. It was originally created by Glittering Muffins and there are total of 13 blogs participating in this project. The idea is to “visit” 1 country a month (12 countries in a year) by exploring the cooking culture and craft. We all cook 1 (or more) dish with our children and some of us make crafts. So, today we are visiting France!

When I was thinking what it is we could cook to celebrate the cuisine of France I had to consider the ability of a 4 year-old to cook together with me AND enjoy eating it. And so, I chose to make this simple dish  – Omelette – in a quite traditional way, by adding sausages to it (something my daughter enjoys eating). You can choose to either make it plain or add something else in place of sausages (tomatoes, onions, peas, corn – whatever you and your family enjoy!)

You will need:

5 eggs

Milk (as much as the egg shells from the eggs can fit)

4-5 medium sausages chopped up in pieces

A bit of oil

Beat the eggs together with milk.

Warm up some oil in the frying pan and slightly fry the sausages.

Pour the milk and egg mixture and adjust the fire to medium high.

Check the omelette by gently moving the sides towards the middle allowing the mixture to pour over onto the pan from the top. Do it until you have no liquid left on top. Cover with the lid and let it fry for a few minutes.

Serve with some cheese, herbs or vegetables.

To compliment our omelette, we made a simple banana milkshake: add milk to blender, throw in some banana and blend together till smooth.

My daughter was goofing around when it was time to eat. She really enjoyed visiting France through cooking this simple meal!
