A Simple Glitter Hand Print Card Tutorial Plus Ayyam-i-Ha Giveaway!

Ayyam-i-ha giveaway

This is the time of the year when are in an anticipation of upcoming Ayyam-i-Ha and we have been preparing for a card exchange with our friends around the world!

Girls love making cards each year. In the past we have participated in Nawruz exchange and made and sent out several beautiful cards.

Today I will share a very simply tutorial with you – Glitter Hand Print Card.

You will need:

A piece of construction paper

A pencil

Craft glue

Clear construction paper

1. Fold your paper into half.

2. On the outer side sign your paper with a general Ayyam-i-Ha or any kind of greeting (e.g Happy Ayyam-i-Ha, Best wishes for Ayyam-i-Ha etc)

3. On the inside, use one side to trace your child’s hand print. You can turn it into a flower as we did and draw a butterfly or two on top. Of you can leave it as it is.

4. Apply craft glue generously inside the print and inside any other pictures you drew, but not too much as it may make the paper too damp.

5. Use glitter and a brush to spread it on the glue. Let your child’s imagination fly free! You might end up with a lot of glitter mess, but unless you have a crawling infant or a pet that can inhale or lick the glitter, you will be fine after wiping it down with wet wipes or a damp cloth (I know we have to do it several times and then run a dry cloth or paper towel over).

6. Place a piece of construction paper over your child’s work to secure glitter – your card is now ready to be sent and won’t into a glitter explosion when it arrives and the envelop is opened!

And now, onto the next fun event that me and Leanna of All Done Monkey are happy to present to you!

Wee Tales For Wee Ones {Review + Giveaway}

Azita giveawa
I am very fortunate to have so many talented friends who are singers, writers, performers, scientists – you name it!

Disclaimer: I was given the product in exchange for  this review. However, all opinions are my own.

One of such special friends is Azita Crerar – she is a daughter of my mother-in-law’s good friend and happens to live just literally a walk over the border! She is an author, a teacher and a song-writers. You can find Azita’s full biography and work on her website – Azita Crerar.
One of Azita’s recent works is Wee Tales For Wee Ones, Volume 1 – a CD made for ESL learners. I enjoyed listening to it and I will be using it in my classroom as I see it fit for both kindergarten and elementary children.
The CD contains 25 tracks: 1 introductory; 12 tracks recorded at a normal speed and 12 at a slower speed to meet the needs of ESL learners. The themes include birthday party, various activities, friendships and more. Each track has a unique background music, a story and some sing-along chants.
This CD was created by a wonderful team:
Words and concept: Azita Crerar
Cover art: Elaheh Mottahedeh-Bos (elahehbos@yahoo.com)
Vocals: Amelia Crerar* (ameliacrerar@hotmail.com), Alden Penner**
Music: Alden Penner (aldenpenner@gmail.com)
Mixing and Mastering: Steve Pathé at Studio Pathé Frères
Cover layout design: William Leong (william_leong@hotmail.com)
The phrases and stories are so catchy, that I have been going on for a few days chanting some of them in my head! My 2 year old loves them too! The repetitive nature of these tracks is what makes the listener learn and say along, practice pronunciation and intonations. The CD would be a great asset to any ESL classroom from tots up to middle school. And just by using a track a teacher can create a great set of lessons to last all year long.
I am very excited to share with you that I’ll be giving away 5 download cards for cdbaby.com for Azita’s Wee Tales for Wee Ones!
The giveaway will commence from midnight (US Pacific time) on May 14th and last till midnight on May 20th. Please enter the Rafflecopter below!

One Planet, One People

April 22th is a very special day in our calendars – it is the Earth Day. It is also special because just 10 days before Yuri Gagarin, the first astronaut, went to space! On this day people worldwide show support to environmental protection: some go out to clear parks and water sources; some turn off all energy for at least an hour to help save it.
When I think Earth Day, I think of how important it is now, especially, to understand the Oneness of humanity. To understand that everything in our world is interdependent. And that if we don’t treat each other and this world as one, we will never be able to preserve our Earth for generations to come. Whatever little we do on one side of Earth, eventually affects the rest of it.
To understand oneness, I usually introduce the concept of Unity – a very powerful virtue that teaches are about diversity and harmony. “One planet, one people” principle is not new and it gives out a call for us to concentrate on unity and interdependence of all of the creation.
Some time ago I posted a very special game my friend created which we called Ayyam-i-Ha game. To celebrate Oneness of humanity, I would like to add a simple activity which can precede this game and used instead of the cards that are suggested to be used in this game.
Materials needed:
One sheet of A4 paper
Colors (markers, pencils, crayons)
1. Fold the paper several times.

2. Draw a figure of a person.
3. Cut it out.

4. Now, unfold to see few people holding hands together/
5. Take your colors and color these people in different colors, resembling the color of skin

6. Repeat the process
7. Now ask the children to describe differences in paper people they see
8. Have them to fold the cutout to make one person.  Talk about how we are all so different but at the same time we are all humans, one people.
9. Take the globe and stick the paper people around it. Tell the children how we all should embrace this planet – our home – and take care of it.

You would be surprised what kind of interesting ideas younger and older children will come up with during this simple activity!
