It’s been 7 weeks since China started the quarantine, implementing quite strict measures to slow down the super spreader Covid19. Over the time I have been posting Coronavirus Chronicles on my personal Facebook book and some of things I posted proved helpful to my friends.

So here you go – my Coronavirus Chronicles or Coronavirus Facts: get your facts straight!

Coronavirus facts:

1. It attacks the most vulnerable ones. Please do them a favor: wear a mask and wash your hands. Because let’s be honest: no one wants you sneezing and coughing in their faces.

2. I bet home-ec classes are now come in handy. Think of all the DIY projects for sanitizers, masks etc you can make! Isn’t that fun?

3. And now, the true reason why everyone is buying TP like there is not tomorrow – DIY TP masks.

Yes, I was totally sarcastic. So here you go – actual DIY face masks. They are easy peasy to make. No, they won’t do the magic but they will keep you from spreading germs, and also it is a great way to upcycle things at home. Make them from cotton material, couple of layers, and use a needle and a thread in place of glue and stapler – and you have reusable masks that you can wash safely.

3. Lysol kills ALL bacteria. Good ones too. Lysol also creates a sticky film on your skin. No, really, don’t use that and the likes.

– Get your normal, better yet unscented soap. – Wash your hands for 20 seconds (that’s 2 happy birthday songs or 2 twinkle Little stars the short version).

– Vinegar, water and some essential oils, such as, lemon (any citrus, in fact), tea tree, oregano will do the job it disinfecting your house much safer than Chlorax. Bonus – you won’t suffocate while cleaning.

– Tons of recipes for hands sanitizers and DIY sprays. Without aloe vera (which is probably already sold out too). Here is one for you.

– Up your vitamin D intake! There are actual studies that support high doses of vitamin D intake to prevent viral respiratory spread and boost your immune system. I do know the recommendation for adults is 5000 IU.

– Get yourselves outdoors. Fresh air, oxygen – best for you and your families.

DO NOT panic. How will it make your situation better? Just inhale and exhale.

4. A “hunch” can fail you terribly.
Follow common sense and evidence proof medicine.

5. Now, things you DO want to buy (but not too much, leave some for your neighbor!) in case you heard magic words, like “we will be closing down for quarantine”.

Really, learn to ration. You know how much your family eats. And learn to share – it is your eyes that want that can of brussel sprouts, your kids most likely won’t even smell them.

Here is my list of food you do want to get:

– canned food. Not all, only the one you actually eat. Believe, you won’t suddenly start eating artichokes even on quarantine. Unless, of course, you are really starving.

– flour, sugar, salt, yeast. Time to learn how to bake. Just because you can.

– fruit and vegetables that can keep a long time and that also can be used for something besides being cooked/eaten raw.

Yes, apples-potatoes-pears-cabbage-tomatoes-carrots-cucumbers-onions-garlic, I am talking about you!

– grains & lentils. Don’t forget to throw in the bag/container few cloves of garlic – it will keep all the nasty little bugs away. In flour, too.

– freezer stuff: meat (if you eat some), pizzas, ravioli/dumplings – again, things you actually eat.

– UHT milk, if you really need some.

Remember: this is NOT apocalypse. Some stores may shut down for a week or two but probably the major branches will still work.
