Welcome to the new season of 12 Months of Sensory Dough!

I’ll be honest – last time I dropped the ball on it and didn’t finish it, for several different reasons. But this year I am determined with bring you lots more fun activities that include some unusual types of play dough!

This month we talk about Frozen Dough. And by that we don’t mean the animated movie Frozen inspired dough. Our dough is a dough that has been actually frozen.

We chose to make Edible Ice Mud Dough. Why? Well, for 2 reasons: Mud is fun. And I have a toddler who likes to Taste stuff. So edible it is!

I have looked up online about a dozen of various edible Mud recipes and came up with my own.

You will need:

2 cups of flour
1 cup of cocoa powder
2/3 cup of vegetable oil

Mix until it is one big messy lump of mud.
Put in the freezer overnight.
And… Explore it!

First, we tested the texture: it was cold and hard. The oil didn’t allow it to turn into ice but made it of a chocolate bar consistency, which pretty much melted in our hands.

Then, we used cookie cutters to cut out shapes. My 3+ year old kept saying she wanted to eat them! It was harder to cut the shapes as the dough was still very solid cold.

Last, we used it to make “chocolate”. It was fun.

This dough can be kept in an airtight bag or container anywhere including your freezer for a long time!
