It’s that exciting time of the year for our family – Ayyam-i-Ha is coming in just 18 days! So we are happy to share with your our new Ayyam-i-Ha Countdown idea. You can adjust it for as many days as you like. We made it to 19 days, 19th day being the first day of Ayyam-i-Ha.
Just as in our Ayyam-i-Ha Fun Book, the countdown is based on virtues. It’s a great way to review them and also to read/learn quotes associated with each of them.
What you need:
A piece of construction paper, A3 or bigger
Any color paper you can find
Scissors
Blu/white tack
Glue
Markers, pens, pencils
How to make it:
Write “Ayyam-i-Ha Countdown” at the top of the list. You can decorate the letters
Cut out 19 pieces of paper and fold them into half
On top – write numbers from 1-19
Inside – write a virtue for every day of the countdown
Stick the papers on the A3 poster. You can slightly glue together the flaps to add more mystery and fun for each day.
Prepare either printouts of quotes for each virtue, or handwrite them on small pieces of paper
Roll the papers, and attach them to the upper corner of each day’s paper
You are done!
How to use it:
Every day, read what virtue is for that day. Read the quote and discuss it. You can memorize the quotes with older children.
Here is the list of virtues we chose (in order from 1 to 19):
Obedience
Trust
Helpfulness
Generosity
Patience
Responsibility
Truthfulness
Excellence
Confidence
Prayerfulness
Reliability
Unity
I added some of our posts to some of the virtues, either per their exact name or ones I felt were relevant.
We suggest making the virtue of Unity for the last day (click on the link to see an activity you can use to go along with it). It’s an important one and can sparkle so many wonderful conversations.
