Diwali: Things to Know and Things to Make

Until now, attending a proper Diwali Celebration is something I really want to do. Ideally – in India. Other than that – anywhere in the world! Today I felt like sharing the posts I have previously published on my website and elsewhere on Diwali: Things to Know and Things to Make.

Everyone knows and enjoys how colorful this festival is. In my post on Diwali Inspired Ideas I shared some of the common and not so common knowledge on decorations, clothes and traditions. In a process of researching the information on the festival’s origin I also learned it is a day to celebrate a female deity – Goddess Lakshmi, and that it is one day that is celebrated equally by people of all religious backgrounds in India.

Speaking of clothes, we love dress ups! And so we often try to use what we have to make costumes and learn about cultures behinds them. I think our Indian Dress Tutorial is quite a simple yet lovely.

There is no festival without treats and beverages. One thing that is always associated in my mind with Indian is its aromatic Masala Tea  that unfolds so many flavours and sensations that you want to drink it over and over again.

And at last, there is no Diwali without lights, for it IS the Festival of Lights.  And so we really enjoyed making our own Diya from all that has been available to us.

Diwali starts in just 15 days and I am sure that everyone who plans to celebrate will have tons of fun and fond memories! Some of our friends celebrate it in Zhuhai every year by gathering together either for a potluck. Or at an Indian restaurant, decorating their homes, applying beautiful henna designs and wearing beautiful clothes.
